After a week on Facebook, I've decided its a good thing.
I've managed to find quite a few people I haven't been in touch with for a while, and also stumbled accross most of my family on there too. In between the dodgy photos and questionable applications, there is a fair amount of utility in the communication tools. I'm sure myspace or similar site offer similar stuff, but its had a thumbs up from me!

On Sunday I ran the first part of our summer roleplaying campaign, based in an alternate version of the Wild West.
For my Deadlands campaign, I haven't really bothered writing much background (ie, any), just basing what happens from Westerns in my DVD collection. This seems to have worked quite well so far, with most characters being Western stereotypes
In our first session, the character tried to run some prospectors from their land, facing off against a preacher who looked much like Clint Eastwood. We ended with two characters down and the last fleeing town with the Preacher in pursuit, a few hours behind after having his horse shot from under him.
Having run only fantasy for the last seven years or so, Its nice to have a change of scene. The Savage Worlds system is quick and simple, a great diversion from our usual games. So far it has been easy to create distinctive characters...

After invitations from several friends to join, I finally took the plunge and joined Facebook. Its pretty easy to use and fairly manic. I found several people on there I haven't seen for ages, so that was all good!
Also some surprises, the sort of people I'd never expect on somewhere like that :).

Apparently, while doing some changes for my search engine optimisation, I managed to hide some of my own pages from the main menu. Should be fixed now.
I've added a quick links section at the bottom of the site and a piece about DotNetNuke, the system which updates this site.
The forums will be upgraded soon. Whenever the next release of the forums section comes out for DotNetNuke, that is.
I'm thinking of having a DunkNET fantasy football league when the next season rolls around. Something will be added to the Forum when they have the players and teams ready for the new season. A prize to anyone who can design a worse kit than me!

Yesterday I lost part of me, but luckily it was only a tooth.
After people telling me of the six hour operations they endured to have their wisdom teeth removed, and the large amounts of swelling that went with it, mine only took ten minutes. There was a minimum of blood loss and no pain involved.
The dentist told me he always preferred it when things went well. Funnily enough, so do I! One down, three to go.

I've added a review of Gertrude and Claudius to the book reviews section. Probably not worth reading if you haven't studied Hamlet.
Maybe I should have a Whats New section instead of putting this my blog. The sun has disappeard once again under dismal clouds, such is our summers

I had a quick look at the newest version of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game from Wizards of the Coast, and was quite impressed with what I saw. A lot of work has gone into the design to streamline and speed up the workings of the d20 system. I liked what I saw so much that when we come to play a futuristic game, it will become a hard choice between Warhammer 40k and Star Wars.
And when the next edition of D&D comes along, I fully expect a lot of the elements of Star Wars - Saga Edition to be in it.

Having gone further into the Search Engine Optimisation notes, I've learnt more about keywords, targeting URLs and similarly fascinating subjects.
I'm slowly applying these to my website, with a slight reorganisation of my links pages. My efforts last week have had some impact, and if you search for Dunknet or Exeter Gaming on google or yahoo you might find me in those results. No one actually searches using those keywords, but its a start.

Still feeling tired from a dance weekend in Southport, I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3 yesterday afternoon.
I thought it was great! Some of the plot didn't make much sense, but that's never bothered me in the past. Lots of action, several surreal scenes and various pirates from all over the globe. I liked the crabs alot too!
If you liked the other pirate films, then go and see it!

After a day looking at ways of doing search engine optimisation and how some rankings work for search engines, I decided to do some basic work for DunkNET.
Its not anything visiting the site would notice, but the page titles, keywords and descriptions have now all been updated. Only time will tell if this makes any difference to my page rankings on various search engines.
