Being at home most days does strange things to you. Never before have I been interested in gardening or cooking.
I'm still not interested in gardening, but since I had to put up a new fence, it felt stupid having a garden of weeds, moss and ivy. But when I asked my mum if she had any spare plants, I didn't also expect a large bag of peat, an hour's skilled labour and a fair amount of advice. My plants probably won't get the recommended amount of water, but more a random amount every few days. If they can't survive a few days drought, then they probably don't belong there in the first place.
Cooking is a more long-term aim, but at least it has immediate rewards of something to eat. My shelves are slowly filling with strange ingredients (so bay leaves and ginger may not be strange to you, but they are unheard of in my kitchen) and I haven't progressed far beyond trying soup and some cakes, but some of my friends will soon become (un)willing victims :). In fact, the ones coming to stay soon will find it even harder to run away.
So I'm collecting recipes and suchlike, and maybe one day I'll cook a proper meal for someone!
