 Troll: The Rending - Traits Minimize

Traits are used to customize a troll, making it a true character. Traits are beneficial to the troll, whereas flaws are detrimental.

Number of Traits

A troll gains several traits depending on the race chosen, 3 standard traits chosen from the list and can take up to two more traits, one for each flaw taken.

General Traits

Any troll can choose traits from this list.

Better Rend - The troll has practiced rending on many creatures, dazing them as it tears them apart.

[Requires Rend] The victim of a Rend must make a Fortitude check [DC 10 + 1/2 rend damage] or be stunned for 1 round.

Better Throw Rocks - The troll knows lots about rock throwing.

[Requires Throw Rocks] Range increment increases by 6 Squares [30 ft] and gains a +2 bonus to Throw Rocks

Big Ears - The troll has very large ears, which increase it's sense of hearing.

Troll gains a +6 bonus to Listen checks.

Big Legs - The troll has large, powerful legs with far more muscle than other trolls.

The troll's speed increases by 10 ft, it gains a +4 bonus to Jump checks and can run at x5 instead of x4.

Big Name
- The troll's name is known to others, and it respected by them.

+4 bonus on Intimidate checks, other trolls failing a Challenge roll won't attack that troll for 24 hours. Other trolls which make a Knowledge(History) check DC 15 know of this troll's traits & flaws.

Blessed of Mo'ah - The troll god of Acid, Water and Mad blesses this troll and mystical tattoos cover it.

+2 bonus to Fortitude, Reflex and Will checks.

Blessed of Muh'vuk - The troll god of Strength and Meat blesses this troll.

Troll gains 8 extra hit points.

Blessed of N'kul - The troll god of Destruction and Mad blesses this troll.

[Requires Rend] On a successful Rend, the troll deals 2d6 extra damage.

Blessed of Res'ker - The troll god of Names blesses this troll.

The troll can use the Knowledge(History) skill in place of Intimidate for Challenges. The troll also gains a +4 bonus to Knowledge(History) checks.

Blessed of Ug'ku - The troll god of Greed and Smash blesses this troll.

After eating Smash, the troll gains an extra +2 bonus to all checks and damage rolls.

Camouflage - The skin of this troll changes colour to match it's surroundings.

Troll gains a +8 bonus on Hide checks.

Cleave - The troll has learnt how to deal with multiple foes, wasting little time between kills.

Whenever an opponent is felled in combat by the troll, it can have a free attack on any opponent within reach.

Cliff Jumper - The troll is a champion cliff jumper.

Troll gains a +4 bonus to Jump checks and can halve falling damage with a Jump check (DC half distance fallen in feet).

Cursed of Res'ker - The troll has been cursed by the troll god of Names, having bright pink skin. Other trolls avoid you, not wanting your curse.

Troll gains a +4 bonus to Intimidate checks.

Eat Anything - While most trolls will try to eat most things, this troll can eat anything, impressing other trolls.

It gains a +2 bonus to Intimidate checks, a +1 bonus to Bite checks and +1 to bite damage rolls

Fast Reflexes - The troll has very fast reflexes, striking at many foes when the chance comes.

Gain extra attacks of opportunity per round (Mountain - 1, 2-headed - 2, Hill or Swamp - 3, Desert - 5)

Fearsome Roar - The troll can emit a loud roar, scaring creatures around it and gaining respect from other trolls.

If used as a full-round action, it affects all non-trolls within 8 Squares [40 ft], or all non-trolls within 4 Squares [20 ft] if used at the end of a charge (as a free action). Those affected must make a DC 16 Will save or be frightened for 1 round. The troll gains a +2 bonus to Intimidate checks if it uses the roar.

Glowing Claws - The troll has brightly glowing claws.

[Requires Spawn of Zubb-Zubb trait or being a Desert Troll] The troll's claw attacks count as magical for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction and deal 1 extra damage.

Grab and Hold On - The troll likes to hold on to it's foes, giving them no chance to escape.

The troll can initiate grapples. Other trolls are not naturally inclined to do so.

Grab and Throw - The troll likes to pick up foes and throw them.

This troll can attempt to throw an opponent of the same size of smaller by initiating and succeeding on a Grapple check. The creature is then thrown 2 squares [10 ft] + 1 square  [5 ft] per two points Grapple won by, dealing d6 damage per 2 squares [10 ft] thrown

Iron Grip - The troll has a vice-like grip.

Troll gains a +4 bonus on Climb checks and deals 2 extra points of damage on a successful Rend.

Knows Things - The troll can remember far more than most other trolls.

Troll gains a +2 bonus on Knowledge(History) checks and can either have a further +3 bonus to Knowledge(History) checks or can speak one extra language from the following: Common, Demonic [Abyssal], Draconic, Dwarven, Giant. On a successful Knowledge(History) check, the troll can identify if a troll has the following traits or flaws: Blessed of X, Cursed of X, Knows Things, Shaman, Spawn of X, Troll Chef.

Leap - The troll can jump great distances.

Troll gains  a +10 bonus to Jump checks.

Likes Water - This troll enjoys spending most of its time in the water

Troll gains a +8 bonus to Swim checks.

Paranoid - The troll trusts no one and nothing, constantly watching everything and everyone.

Troll gains a +6 bonus to Spot checks and a +2 bonus to Move Silent checks.

Push Others - The troll likes shoving creatures in combat, often at great heights from bridges.

The troll can use the Bull-rush combat option (PHB pg 154) with following the bonus - Desert +12, Hill & Swamp +14, 2-Headed +15, Mountain +16. Bonuses to checks (such as from eating Smash) also apply to the Bull-rush action.

Really Big - The troll is really big for it's race.

[Counts as 2 choices] The troll gains a +2 bonus to Bite, Claw, Club and Throw Rocks checks and 5 extra hit points

Really Crafty - This troll is clever and cunning.

[Counts as 2 choices] The troll gains a +2 bonus to Balance, Climb, Hide, Jump, Listen, Move Silently and Spot checks, and a further 2 bonus to one of those skills. It also gains a +2 bonus to Reflex checks.

Really Greedy - This troll likes to keep stuff, overcoming it's innate desire to destroy and break.

The troll can ignore the effects of the Must Break Things innate flaw

Really Mad - The troll raves and rants constantly.

Troll gains a +2 bonus on Intimidate checks and a +2 bonus on Will checks.

Shaman - The troll can is favoured by one of the troll gods and can use some of their power.

[Counts as 2 choices] Troll gains a +2 bonus to History and Will checks, and a special power dependent on patron. The troll gains a +2 bonus on Challenges against trolls Blessed or Cursed by the same God as the shaman serves. Special Power: Ey'as [Fire]: cast flaming sphere 2/day, caster level of 4; Mo'ah [Acid, Water & Mad]: Acid Resistance & Fire Resistance 10; Muh'vuk [Strength & Meat]: +2 to damage rolls; N'kul [Destruction & Mad]: Attacks critical on 18-20, instead of just 20; Res'ker [Names]: +8 bonus to Challenges when challenged, but not when challenging; Ug'ku [Greed & Smash]: 1/day, can create enough Smash for 3 trolls.

Sneaky - The troll is used to creeping around and staying out of sight.

Troll gains a +4 bonus to Hide and Move Silent checks

Stench - The troll produces a noxious smell strong enough to knock out other creatures.

All non-trolls within 4 Squares (20 ft) of the troll must make a Fortitude check (DC 16) or become sickened for 1 minute. A creature only has to make this saving throw once per day.

Sticky Claws - The troll's claws adhere to nearly any surface.

Troll gains a +8 to Climb checks.

Throw More Rocks - The troll can throw double the number of rocks as other trolls.

As a full-attack action, the troll can throw two rocks, each with a -2 penalty on the Throw Rocks check.

Troll Chef - The troll can create very tasty meals.

The troll can prepare a meal in 10 minutes which can feed 1 troll. Any troll who eats a meal made by a troll chef gains a 2 bonus to Will saving throws for 4 hours and will not attack or Challenge the troll chef during that time. The troll chef has a big iron cauldron and can create a fire to cook food with a DC 15 Survival check. Most trolls prefer their food raw and cold

Unique Trait - The troll has a unique trait, which no other has.

Details must be worked out between player and DM.

Warty Skin - The troll is covered in thick, hardened warts.

+1 armour bonus to Armour Class.

Weird - The troll is weird and has a strange attunement to magic.

+3 bonus to saving throws against spells and spell-like effects.

Wild Troll - The troll is in tune with it's surroundings.

Troll gains +6 to Survival checks and can use the Track feat (PHB). Trolls with Scent have a +4 bonus to Survival checks when tracking

Hill Troll Traits

These traits can only be taken by Hill Trolls.

Throw Rocks - The hill troll has learnt how to use thrown rocks as a weapon.

The hill troll gains skill Throw Rocks +6, range increment 12 squares (60 ft), damage 2d6 + 9

Spawn of Zubb-Zubb - The hill troll is a spawn of the great chieftain Zubb-Zubb, inheriting some of it's magical power and glowing with a blue radiance.

The blue glow of this hill troll grants it Spell resistance 10 + Will bonus and a +1 to Intimidation checks.

Venomous Bite - The hill troll's bite is highly toxic, causing weakness in foes

If the hill troll's bite deals damages, foe must make Fortitude check (DC 16) or take 1d6 Constitution damage.

 

Mountain Troll Traits

These traits can only be taken by mountain trolls.

Rend - The mountain troll has learnt how to rend much like it's brethren.

The mountain troll can rend if they hit with both claws, dealing 2d4 + 12 damage.

Scent - The mountain troll has the keen sense of smell it's brethren have.

The mountain troll can identify familiar odours and detect creatures within 6 squares, dependent on wind conditions.

Spawn of Ugrag - The mountain troll is a spawn of the champion of the games Ugrag, known tearing up dwarfs and other smaller creatures.with its claws.

The mountain troll has a +2 bonus to Claw damage rolls against creatures of a smaller size category.

 

Swamp Troll Traits

These traits can only be taken by swamp trolls.

Better on Land - The swamp troll no longer needs water to regenerate.

The swamp troll can regenerate at 2 per round outside of water, instead of not at all.

Throw Rocks - The swamp troll has learnt how to use thrown rocks as a weapon.

The swamp troll gains the skill Throw Rocks +6, range increment 12 squares (60 ft), damage 2d6 + 9.

Venomous Bite - The swamp troll's bite is highly toxic, causing weakness in foes.

If bite damages, foe must make Fortitude check (DC 18) or take 1d6 Constitution damage.

 

Desert Troll Traits

These traits can only be taken by desert trolls.

Rend - The desert troll has learnt how to rend much like it's brethren.

The desert troll can rend if they hit with both claws, dealing 2d4 + 6 damage.

Throw Rocks - The desert troll has learnt how to use thrown rocks as a weapon.

The desert troll gains the skill Throw Rocks +8, range increment 8 squares (40 ft), damage 2d6 + 6.

 

2-Headed Troll Traits

These traits can only be taken by 2-headed trolls.

Spawn of Zubb-Zubb - The 2-headed troll is a spawn of the 2-headed troll Zubb-Zubb-a-Zubb-Zubb-Zubb, inheriting some of it's magical power and glowing with a blue radiance.

The blue glow of this 2-headed troll grants it Spell resistance 10 + Will bonus and a +1 to Intimidation checks.

Split in Two - The 2-headed troll can split into two parts for short periods of time.

The 2-headed troll can split in half as a full-round action. Each half has one-half of the hit points and regenerates at 2 hp/round. Each half has only one claw and one head, but flesh forming into a second stubby leg. Their movement is reduced by two squares and they cannot perform any action which requires 2 arms. For every three rounds separated, they suffer a -1 penalty to all checks. One can rejoin the other as a standard action.

Throw Rocks - The 2-headed troll has learnt how to use thrown rocks as a weapon.

The 2-headed troll gains the skill Throw Rocks +7, range increment 14 squares, damage 2d6 + 14

Venomous Bite - The bites of the 2-headed troll are highly toxic, causing weakness in its foes.

If bite damages, foe must make Fortitude check (DC 15) or take 1d6 Constitution damage.
