Dieter is the landlord of Crumbly’s Bar, buying up an old inn in Stirhof with the money he inherited from an adventuring companion. He is respected member of Stirhauf society, if a little eccentric at times. Founder of the Piemakers’ Guild and a devout Sigmarite, he has many friends and foes alike in the town. Not least of these is the mayor, with whom he is a good friend. 

Originally a fisherman from Marienburg, Dieter retains a healthy taste for fish, reflected in the décor of Crumbly’s and the fish pies in its menu. After leaving his home he found himself on an overland caravan to Cathay, where he worked as a bodyguard and interrogator and met his future wife, Ulrika. He left the expedition part-way through, retiring to a life as a tavern owner, driven almost mad by the sights he had seen.
But Sigmar’s blessing was with him when he inherited a fortune from a dead halfling companion, returning to Stirhauf to build Crumbly’s Bar.

Leaving much of the day-to-day running of the bar to his wife, Dieter spends his days experimenting with pies and ale, talking to the patrons of Crumbly’s and seeing to the activities of the Piemakers’ Guild. He takes drugs proscribed by Dr Lector to suppress his drinking habits, and has bad days as well as good days. This has taken a toll on his body and mind, leaving him with permanently ruddy cheeks.

An obsession with burning witches and nearly everything else was cured by a Cathayan doctor, and his fervour has been replaced with a drive to make pies and cure the world through them. Merely mentioning the subject is enough to bring a strange light to his eyes and hours of intense conversation from his lips.

Dieter owns Crumbly’s Bar and most of the items within. He wears good quality clothing, which always have a slightly fishy smell to them. His only jewellery is a bracelet made of fish hooks and a gold wedding ring.

His days on the road have made him continually prepared for trouble. A best craftsmanship sword is belted to his waist alongside a dagger, three throwing knives are kept hidden upon his person and two healing draughts are available in a belt pouch. His shield hangs on the wall, bearing a motif of fish and pies. Another pouch usually contains alcohol suppressive drugs, proscribed by Dr Lector.

His other possessions from his adventuring days are stashed away safely, including outdoor adventuring gear, several sets of manacles, full plate armour, a flail and four more throwing knives.
